This year's Conference Committee is an eclectic group of academics and professionals from across the country. Each Committee member holds a vested interest in all areas of modeling and simulation. Their volunteer efforts make this event possible.

Brian Teer

Brian Teer
Alion Science and Technology

Brian Teer is an Assistant Vice President at Alion Science and Technology. He is currently the Technical Director for Alion's Advanced Modeling and Simulation Technology Operation (AMSTO) based in Hampton Roads, VA. With more than 20 years of systems and software engineering, Brian's experience has spanned a multitude of technical disciplines. Throughout his career, Brian has led modeling and simulation programs in both small business and large corporate environments including the Joint and Service Defense communities, as well as commercial industry. Brian has been instrumental in development efforts for multiple enabling applications and technologies in current use within DoD, including the Common Distributed Mission Training Station (CDMTS) and the Joint Bus (JBUS), which reduce effort to conduct training and experimentation in M&S environments, resulting in time and cost savings. Brian has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and M.S. in Computer Science, both from North Carolina State University.

Tammy Van Dame is a native of Rochester, New York, with more than 25 years of experience in government communication and strategy. After serving 10 years in the U.S. Air Force in various public affairs positions throughout Europe and at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia, Tammy accepted a position as spokesperson for the Virginia State Police in 1994, responding to a variety of high profile crisis and consequence management situations over a 21 city/county area in Southeastern Virginia. In 2000, she left the Virginia State Police to work at U.S. Joint Forces Command holding positions as a training and exercise planner and strategic policy planner. An avid volunteer, Tammy has traveled across the world in support of SECSTATE public diplomacy programs training media relations and strategic communication to various foreign governments. Currently, Tammy is the Director of Corporate Communication for Combat Direction Systems Activity, Dam Neck—a Naval Sea Systems Command warfare center. She has held this position since August 2008.

Dr. Johnny Garcia is Founder and CEO of the fastest growing Modeling and Simulation (M&S) company in Tidewater - SimIS, Inc. He has over 20 years of engineering experience that includes systems architecture design, software development, database development, C4I systems development, logistics systems development, and new technology insertion for the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, NASA, Department of Commerce and Department of Homeland Security. Johnny has received a BA and BS from St Leo College, MBA and MS from Florida Institute of Technology and a PhD in Modeling and Simulation from Old Dominion University. Johnny is a veteran of the US Navy and a member of Ascension Catholic Church in Virginia Beach and is the proud father of wonderful twin daughters Hope and Faith and is married to his lovely wife Lorena. Johnny is a leader in the community and has been recognized as an expert in M&S throughout the country and the world.

Melvin Ferebee is a career NASA researcher living his dream. He holds a Bachelor's in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech and a Master's in Mathematics from William and Mary. He's currently the manager of the space Technology Office in the Exploration and space Operations Directorate at NASA Langley Research Center. He is also the Center lead for Participatory Exploration and Open Innovation. Since the days of Gemini, he has sought to engage as an active member of the nation's space program. He started working for Langley as a high school student during the infancy of the Space Shuttle Program. He was on the cutting edge of computer-aided engineering as applied to large space systems. He was fortunate to be a team member of the Space Station Skunk Works, Space Station Redesign, the NASA Exploration Team and a project manager for Integrated Design and Analysis for the Ares I-X Development Test Flight. His areas of expertise are in systems analysis, architecture development, and in modeling and simulation. He has authored over 40 technical papers. He has served as leader and mentor. He is married with three children.

David Roberts

David Roberts is Vice President of SimIS, Inc. Mr. Roberts manages programs and customer relationships in the SimIS Software Systems and Modeling and Simulation business areas. Over his twenty year career, he has experience as program manager, researcher, software development manager, systems engineer, and software engineer. His expertise lies in the requirements analysis, specification, design, development, integration, and test of complex software systems. Mr. Roberts has worked on modeling and simulation projects across multiple domains (experimentation, training, test & evaluation, acquisition) and for many defense, intelligence community, and federal customers. Prior to joining SimIS, Mr. Roberts was a Principal Research Scientist at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI). Mr. Roberts has a BS in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering from Cornell University, a MS in Computer Science from the Johns Hopkins University, and is a Ph.D. candidate in Human-Integrated Systems in the Industrial and Systems Engineering program at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Bonnie B. Stewart has 26 years of professional and entrepreneurial experience. She represents Organization Management Group (OMG) as the Conferences & Conventions Coordinator for MODSIM World Conference & Expo. Bonnie has produced events; provided sales and marketing; developed major donors, clients and memberships; increased revenues; and provided executive support for organizations nationally and internationally, spanning multiple sectors in government, non-profit, Fortune 500 and professional associations.
