International Modeling & Simulation Conference Returns to Hampton Roads

Free and open to the public events included

August 13, 2010 – Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced Monday plans to disestablish the Norfolk-based Joint Forces Command within a year.  As a result, modeling and simulation (M&S) has been brought to the forefront of the United States, including Hampton Roads.

This announcement is very timely. As America’s virtual commodity, modeling and simulation is the proactive, hands-on approach to problem solving using the latest technology and engineering practices. For the fourth year in a row, The MODSIM World Conference will meet in the region from October 13–15, this year at the Hampton Roads Convention Center in Hampton, Virginia.  An international three-day event, MODSIM was created and exists for the collaboration and transfer of modeling and simulation knowledge, new research, development and applied technology across public and private sectors.

MODSIM World 2010 attendees can learn more about the dynamic world of modeling and simulation and look at new applications and business opportunities for this “critical national technology.”  The conference's focus will be on 21st Century Decision-Making: The Art of Modeling & Simulation.  Tracks include Defense, Engineering & Science, Health & Medicine, Homeland Security & First Responders, The Human Dimension, K-20 STEM Education, and Serious Games & Virtual Worlds. 

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell is invited to open the conference Wednesday, October 13th, and CNN Correspondent Mario Armstrong is scheduled to host a free and open event to the public. The M&S session, Dream, Create, Go, is an evening event focused on middle and high school students, teachers and parents, and encourages young minds to explore science, technology, engineering and  M&S as a career option.  Attendees can register for this event by contacting reservations@modsimworldconference.com.
