Health and Medicine Health & Medicine Track

A revolution is underway in the use of M&S technology in health care. There are rapidly expanding markets for advanced simulation tools and methods leading to more effective medical treatments, increased patient safely, and for meeting ongoing training requirements of the enormous healthcare workforce.

The health and medicine simulation community needs to maintain a healthy balance between "necessity as the mother of invention" and "invention as the father of necessity" to ensure that near term investment addresses current and near term requirements. It is important that the medical community communicate the requirements for useful models and simulations to M&S professionals in other industries by sharing their needs and experiences in ways that will inspire those non-health M&S professionals to consider how they might leverage their own expertise to improve the practice of health care.

To take advantage of the interdisciplinary MODSIM WORLD venue and theme, the Track committee is seeking high quality presentations that: (a) address methods for identifying and communicating medical simulator requirements to other M&S professionals, (b) describe existing, well-understood requirements, or (c) report on exemplary successes and failures to serve as lessons learned for future simulation development initiatives. Papers, panels, exhibits, demonstrations, or other creative formats of presentation are sought for the session topical areas identified below. (These session topic areas are tentative pending the track program committee's review of all papers submitted.) The track program committee will consider each proposed presentation on its merits.

Session Topic Areas for Consideration:

  1. Simulation Application Requirements for Use in Clinical Skills Training or Assessment
  2. Application Requirements for Nursing and other Health Professionals
  3. Applications and Requirements for Standardized Patient and Human-Equipment Hybrid simulation
  4. Applications and Requirements for Emergency Management, EMT, Public Health, and Disaster Response Training
  5. Methods/Models For Identifying Requirements and Communication Between Simulation Users/Consumers And Developers
  6. Modeling Tools and Methods for Bio-Mechanical Tools and Devices
  7. Methods for Cost Beneficial Verification, Validation, and Accreditation of Healthcare and Medical Simulation
  8. Opportunities for Collaboration between Civilian and Government funders and customers to Meet Health and Medical Simulation Requirements
  9. Methods/Models for Identifying Requirements and Communication Between Health and Medical Simulation Users/Consumers And Developers
